I agree with starting out with all the lesser evils before going to the steriods. We did do that, for the first 1 1/2 years of the dreaded Itch.Camrynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12696952736180900465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4753277637986396603.post-6476774115997589542012-09-06T11:30:04.900-07:002012-09-06T11:30:04.900-07:00He'll be pleased so long as Mom doesn't ke...He'll be pleased so long as Mom doesn't keep taking me for me to fetch!Camrynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12696952736180900465noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4753277637986396603.post-9886133467909024462012-09-06T06:21:14.642-07:002012-09-06T06:21:14.642-07:00Hey, thanks for responding about the steroids and ...Hey, thanks for responding about the steroids and don't worry it wasn't too long. I appreciate all the advice I can get. :) Steroid pills are not nearly as bad as the shots because if there is a problem you can stop feeding them, whereas with the shot it is too late once it's injected. My vet only offered the injections. I'm just not ready to try that. I know antihistamines don't work for every horse, but I feel like I need to try it before I go the steroid route. I do wish I could use the fly sheet, but he lives on thirty acres with lots of trees so he would rip it to shreds in no time at all and like you mentioned it is waaaaay too hot this summer. Thank you for all of the information. :DAchieve1dreamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15401246064499148344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4753277637986396603.post-11639751537921996462012-09-06T05:29:20.798-07:002012-09-06T05:29:20.798-07:00He should be pleased about having a new raincoat. ...He should be pleased about having a new raincoat. Most humans like new things. <br />I have a pic somewhere of my friend Lu holding the Stallions tool bag for him while he mended the water trough. Maybe I should learn to do things like that although the Stallion gives me mints for just being me. I called the vet about using benadryl or something over the counter and he told me I couldn't do that and that I just needed to bring him in for cortisone shots.... grr. It makes me so angry when they jump straight to steroids! I'm not risking laminitis for something that can be treated without steroids. Our vets can be useless around here sometimes. I wish we had an equine specialist instead of just a bunch of small animal vets who happen to also treat horses. Oh well, we will figure something out with all of the wonderful advice our followers are giving us. :) Thank again!Achieve1dreamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15401246064499148344noreply@blogger.com
