Working for Mom...

Camryn here:
Not much going on around here really.  Had a few nice weather days that Mom concentrated on cleaning out the gardens and burning deadfall.  Between the rain, winds and her recuperating ribs those things have been awaiting her attention.
I haven't been totally idle though (darn it).  We've been getting back to doing some groundwork.  Nothing major due to mud, just longing at a walk, disenaging, backing...I'm not totally happy about it, did offer a few bucks at first.  Mom just kinda laughs at the attitude though.  I'd prefer her to just realize this means I don't wanna and leave it be.  SIGH
Big plus is Mom has been adding black oil sunflower seeds to my breakfast/dinner feed.  Nom, nom, nom I do like these a lot.  Just a little right now she'll build up to 1/4 cup over time.  I get these each winter, so besides the bugs being gone I do look forward to winter I have to admit.  Mom'll also add some alfalfa pellets later in the year at my trimmers recommendations.  Not enough to get me all frisky or anything like that.
Onyx now has his special heated pad in his bed to keep him cozy as the weather changes.  He has a good coat, but I don't think he's able to self heat as good as me.  I have a very deluxe coat going on.  I'll have to ask Mom to take some piktures of me and my fur to post.
Oh, the new Neigh-bors keep Mom amused.  First off Wa-Chi had another name change, Danette feels the name Jesse suits him better.  Anyway, Levi and Jesse finally got turned out together.  Mom thinks Levi finds Jesse highly annoying.  Jesse is always like "lets play", while Levi squeals "would you just leave me alone".  Maybe Levi being only 4 finds Jesse intimidating, though it seems Jesse is all about just having fun and not being mean at all.  Mom thinks they'll become great friends pretty soon.
I'm looking forward to meeting them both up close.  For some reason though Mom & Me haven't been invited over to work with them. Maybe soon though, afterall if we're gonna be riding buddies it would be a good thing right?

Just a tad damp I am...

Camryn here:
Yesterday was a rain all day kinda day.  The temps were pretty mild though so I decided to self wash a bit.  Coulda used some shampoo though I guess...
Ok so I'm a little wet Mom, nothing a little hay won't cure.  At least I don't smell like wet dog right?...

Ahhhhhh, yes Nervana, a cure all for what might ail you I say...
Onyx here: So what's the comment about smelling like a wet dog about?  Mmmmm, one of us has brains enough to come in outa the rain.  Hint, it's not Camryn!!!

The boyfriend neighbor moved in...

Camryn here:
Exciting news, Danette picked up Wa-Chi today.  Not sure of da spelling, Indian for something to do with clouds I guess.  Momma went with and of course took her camera.  Her wished her'd thought to take some pictures of da barn Wa-Chi came from.  Mom said it's like a big time horse palace kind of place, da board be nearly as much as a house payment!!!  Danette has a real nice place but, nothing like a palace, we hopes Wa-Chi realizes being a home boy horse is a much better way to be.  Getting spoilt and loved on by just one person that he can call his own now, instead of being a schooling horse.
He'd never done a step up trailer before, so that took some time and patience.  He never misbehaved one bit, never stressed, just didn't quite get the you have to step up and in part.  Everyone just took their time and he got in fine once he got it.

They'd circle then present the trailer, back him, circle some more kind of thing.  He'd put in one foot, then two, then one rear, till finally all of him was in the trailer...
Coming off the trailer, he did a Hafy thing and wanted to beeline for the grass.  I think I like him already!...

He's taking in all the new sights and sounds very calmly...
Eclipse and Dakato being the welcoming commitee.  Levi is in the barn being treated for his rainrot.  You can see my barn just beyond the blue tarp...
I think Wa-Chi must be happy to have Danette as his new Momma since he's givin her a big ol smooch!...
I think Wa-Chi will love his new room right next to the hay.  He'll spend today in his new room then meet his new friends one by one.  Momma says his Dapples look just like snow flakes across his shoulders.  I can't wait till he's out in the pasture so I can give him a good "Welcome Whinny".

Return of the net...

Camryn here:
I'd posted about my being back on my slow feed hay net and had a few comment regarding it.  So, I asked Mom to bring the camera down to the barn for a little show n eat...
I am patiently awaiting the hanging of my slow feed net, NOT...
OK, so this is me actually trying to be patient.  This is on account of Mom's loud "KNOCK IT OFF CAM"
Jeez, Mom I'm a hungry gurl don't ya know...

I take very delicate  little bites on account that I'm such a demure lady...
NOT...
Lady Schmady, I'm hungry and this is how I do it!!!
Mom got my bags from Smart Pak Equine, they was on sale for $9.99 at the time.  My first set her gots from Miller Saddlery for $9.99 too.  If you google slow feed nets you can check around for good prices.  My first set lasted 2 years.  A few tips for your peoples, after 2 years daily Hafly eating the nylon kinda gets chewed up a bit.  Patching only gets it for so long, order new ones.  Haflingers can and will discover that if you pick up your bag from the bottom that there is a large hole there.  We can and will devour from this large hole to speed up the eating process.  Mean Moms such as mine will place a round rock over the hole making this nearly impossible to do!!!  Course then you gets the added benefit of it making big noise if it's hung on a metal gate as you pull your mouthfuls of hay.  This keeps your dog from truly enjoying his nap but, if he's a good friend he will suffer thru the noise.  The SmartPak bags come in two sizes, small and large, I got the large size which is a bit smaller than my original bags.  We like the bigger ones cause you gets more and their easier to stuff.  Also the SmartPak bag has metal rings at the top for the cord that Mom's use to tie it shut.  At first the rings make it difficult to stuff, once you Haflingers get the rings a bit rusty from enthusiasticly slobbering as you eat it makes stuffing the bag much easier.  Another tip is for Mom's (or Dad's I guess) to place empty bag in clean muck bucket.  Kind keeps the bag in one place and collects spillage as Mom's aren't always neat as the prepare your banquet!!!  Mom stuffs three at a time after work, while I patiently wait.  One for lunch, one for bedtime, and the other for breakfast.  Having these already filled means Mom doesn't have to freeze so much for my bedtime meal, and she won't be rushed for work getting me my breakfast either.  Since it's winter now, I also get a side flake for breakfast/lunch and depending on the weather sometimes two at bedtime.
For those of you who don't know I was what the Vet called morbidly obese when I moved her almost two years ago.  With Mom's starvation loving diet I've dropped over 300 lbs. still a DraftyHafyGurl, still gots my apple bottom.  But, according the Mom and the Vet I'm much healthier and happier.  Still, I'd love to do what I does best EAT, EAT, and EAT some more.

Shyloh's fault...

Camryn here:
OK, so since Mom's accident I haven't had to eat from my slow feed  net on account of it hurt to much for her to load it.  Dummy me let Mom see Shyloh's blog (so I guess it's kind of my fault too).  Her gets to thinking that her doesn't hurt so much anymore.  So now, I'm eating from my slowfeed nets again.  BUMMER!!!
On the bright side since it's getting colder I gets an extra flake alongside my net, that's good!
Oh, my new NEIGHbor Levi has rainrot.  Pretty bad I guess, Lori didn't notice till her had the Vet out few days after Levi moved next door.  Also he has scratches on his poor legs.  So send good vibes that Lori can help him feel less scabby from it all.

Yet, another new boyfriend...

Camryn:
Exciting happenings next door again.  I'm getting another boyfriend!!!  Danette Mom's friend/neighbor bought a new horse yesterday.  He'll be moving in nextdoor over the weekend.  I can't wait to see him, Mom says while he's not a Haflinger he's really quite the looker.

Aniken is a Warmblood a mix of Fresian & Quarter Horse. Danette is gonna change his name, I'm so glad my Mom let me keep the name I came with!!!   He's been being used as a schooling horse, Danette says he's just a lover boy.  She's all excited.  Bummer though that she's going to be selling my bestest friend Dakota.  But, on the other hand being the only mare surrounded by lots of geldings can't be a bad thing right?  Still I wish Dakota was staying, I'm gonna miss her big time <SIGH>

Good eats this winter...

Camryn here:
Yup, go more hay in the barn.  Jim and John came with a hundred bales just for little ol me!  I'm goin round singing: A hundred bales of hay in the barn, a hundred bales of hay...
Take one down and nom, nom, nom...
99 bales of hay in the barn!!!
Mom tied me to the fence with a snack while she supervised.  Dad and the guys had it all stacked in no time.  I think my fav part of getting more hay (besides knowing I don't have to share none of it), is all the chafings that they push off the back for me to eat at my leisure.
Oh, if any of my friends came to visit, I would share.  We could have a picnic.  Just don't plan on staying cause the rest is for ME!!!
Sounds like we're pretty lucky here in Ohio.  The guys was saying they've been getting lots of calls from Texas and Oklahoma, S. Carolina and other areas wanting to know if they could have hay.  Our guy says no, cause he's got lotsa hungry horses (like me) who are regulars and he can't afford to run out.  He says the extra money would be good.  But, in the long run, hurting his regulars would hurt himself if they went elsewhere.  He does have way good hay too!

No ride, butt....

No ride today, Mom went back to work!!!  Her be kinda ouchie from not just her ribs but, from being off for 6 weeks. Her actually volunteered to go back, Dad woulda been OK, if her'd taken the rest of the season off.  But, her saving for a gooder saddle pad for my treeless so back to work her goes.  It'll only be another month an her'll be off for the winter.  Right now their just transplanting and cleaning up for next season at the green house anyway.  Her has my good 5 star pad, and the Imus bit I never use on Ebay to help too.
Instead of riding look what her did to my butt...
Yeah, her conditioned, brushed and braided my tail.  Since it's frosted a few times making the flies not bad she said it's time for my winter tail.  My tail unlike my mane just grows n grows, with it braided it doesn't pick up quite as much mud.  Best of all it doesn't accumulate snowballs that slap my legs as I move about. I guess it's a good thing and I don't mind,. Do you think it makes my butt look big???  Did her really have to take a pikture of I mean come on Mom????  So much for privacy in your own home.  Later...

Camryn here:
Beeeeutiful day today, not in a sunshiney kind of way (that was yesterday) but, in a temperature no wind kinda day.
So course after Mom cleaned my room her headed up to the house for my saddle...
Ooooh no, here comes Mom her's got my saddle AND a camera.  Doesn't take much thinking to figure out whats gonna happen next does it...

Heading towards the figure eight trees.  That's where I have to work when I've been acting spunky...
What's that I hear?  Uggh Mom has the camera out.  By the way that's not a proper bridle nose band.  I wear a Ride N Tie Halter Bridle combo.  See the snap right by my ear?  The halter part wraps round the bridle part and snaps together.  Pretty handy right?...
EYE C U!...
This be me wearing my new saddle after our little jaunt around the pasture.  Looks like I'm muddy but, cepting my feets I'm really clean.  My winter woolies kinda go every which way!!!

You have no idea how hard it is to stand here nicely without wandering back to eat the yum yum leaves...
But, I'll do it for my friends :)

I Object....Objection overuled...

Camryn here:
Thanks friends for your Get Well wishes, I reallly appreciate everyones thoughts and concerns.  I am feeling better, way better.  Good enough to object about vacation being over, Mom however played judge and overuled my objection, her heels were the gavel so to speak!!!  Well, one heel anyhow, cause her pulled back on one rein and put heel behind my girth causing me to move my butt outta gear on more than one occasion.
I was wanting leaves cause we were riding back in the leaf area, Mom was wanting trotting.  I did a lower head and toss it, her said "NO WAY Gurlfriend" and made me do all this circling stuff.  Bah I say. Not only did I not get my way, but jeez I had to work harder just cause I expressed opinion.
I wasn't done expressing myself, cause after a bit later Mom is riding me back towards the woods (an old not fav destination of mine), it's pretty boggy and some wind "whooshed" in.  I said, "NO way Mom I'm not gonna" and tried to spin. take off and throw a little buck in to prove my point.  Mom again expressed dissatifaction with my opinion saying "You Be-Otch" her one reined me, circled, circled, circled then we went where we'd been heading despite my missgivings.  On the way back to the barn I did some more head lower/shake head in the good tasting leafs area.  You know what I mean, I was thinking bout raising up my bottom in the air.  Mom made me circle trees real quick like, over and over, and over. There are three trees in a line like soldiers, we weaved around them like I was a dog doing agility poles.
Mom said I can only feel my oats when I get oats, and since I don't get none ever that feeling them is not acceptable.
After our ride, she lead me all over, having me do all these moving my feets wherever she wanted me to.  Then her tooked her good old time undressing me while I stood tied.  Course after that Mom brushed me good, scratched my chin and gived me my lunch.  All is right in the world once again.

Tummy ache...

Camryn here:
Word of warning friends, don't gorge on falling leaves!!!  Not that I've learned my lesson however I'm sure.
Lately I've only been out on pasture due to flooding while Mom cleans my room.  Prior to Mom's boo boo she's always leaf blowed the pasture a few times each fall cause there are so many trees there.  Of course this year that hasn't been possible.
Mostly I just move the leaves with my nose to get the grass.  Yesterday though two trees that hadn't dropped yet, let go of the most delightful tasting leaves.  Not only are they tasty but, they're HUGE.  So course being a hungry Hafy I took advantage of the buffet.  Mom was cleaning my room and didn't realize till later that night when her came down to tuck me in.
Mom put me in my room as usual and gave me my bucket of yummies.  I just looked in the bucket, then at Mom, bucket, then Mom....Just the sight of food made me feel yucky. Mom of course was alarmed, I like any Hafy girl don't refuse food without good reason.  Mom then tossed my hay in, I bent to taste it and couldn't bring myself to do so.  I lifted my head and gave Mom the lip!!!  Then I turned to look at my tummy a few times and even kicked at it, my tummy hurt so bad.  Then I thought if I laid down that'd help a bit but, it didn't.  Of course Mom sounded the alarm calling the Vet, she took all my food away to.  I didn't care cause just looking at it made me feel all UGHHY anyhow.
I was laying down resting when the Vet called saying her was on the way.  Mom said Dr. was coming to make me feel all better.  I was so relieved at that news, I got right up, farted then started looking for my food.  Mom didn't give it back but, I scrounged about picking up the remnants of what had been there, then Mom set up a chair to sit and wait with me.  Dr. Bev arrived, Mom told her that I'd perked up, farted couple of times and wanted to eat.  Mom brought me outa my room, Dr. Bev shoved something little up my bottom, then started listening to and thumping my sides lightly.  I stood there so good, cause like Mom said "Dr. Bev was there to make me feel good" so I wanted to help.  My temp was normal, so next Dr. Bev stuck her whole entire arm up into my bottom and was tickling me inside!!! Each time she moved her hand further in I'd hunch all up.  It wasn't a comfy feeling at all. I looked at Mom in alarm but, still stood like an angel.  Dr. Bev pulled some really dry poo out, seems the leaves had been absorbing all the moisture outa me.
Next, yeah it ain't over yet, Dr. Bev took this loooooong tube, a bucket of water, a bottle of mineral oil out.  Next, and this I didn't appreciate at all, Dr. Bev took the looooong tube and began sticking it up my nose!!!!  Mom's holding my head up, I'm looking at her outa the corner of my eye asking "just how is this making me feel better, please tell me"!!!  Still I stood like an angel.  Dr. Bev mentioned that I was bigger than I looked on account of how much tube she inserted!!!  Next she took this thingy and put it on the end of the tube that was now in my belly, she kept pouring water and mineral oil into it, this went in my belly.
Onced all the concoction was inside of me, her began taking the loooong tube out.  Each time she pulled I'd cough and make a big fart!!!  I ended up with a big bloody nose.  Luckily Mom keeps paper towels handy in the barn and had just brought down a new roll.  They used most of it to get the bleeding stopped.
Whilst they did thatI got a shot of bute & Mom and Dr. Bev was talking bout me.  Dr. Bev mentioned that her normaly sedates for rectals and tubing.  Mom asked how come her didn't do that with me.  Dr. Bev said "1st off because she's a Haflinger" (HA! I say to all who think we're stubborn), her said that she'll only try it on one out of ten horses and normally she still ends up sedating.  Her said since I was so good for the rectal she decided to try not doing it for the tube too, which of course I was an angel for as well. Mom, was sooooo proud of how good and trusting a girl I was.  Don't know why she was surprised at that after all she'd said I'd feel better, so course since Mom doesn't "generaly" steer me wrong I cooperated. And as usual Mom was right cause I did feel so much better.   Dr. was petting me all nice as with paper towels stuffed all up my nose, as she told Mom these things.  I guess being as Dr Bev likes me and talks nice bout me I can forgive her all the sticking things inside me from both ends, specially since it was all for good reason.  Plus she said Mom could give me a small flake of hay and I wouldn't starve over night.  I tucked right into my hay like I'd never had a care in the world just a little while ago!
Oh, Dr. Bev checked my teeth on account she's also a dentist and said they're all good and I could wait to spring.  Mom as relieved cause with her not working, and this new Vet bill along with Promise Eye Dr. bills, my needing a dentist to boot would have Dad over the moon!!!!
I'm feeling all better now, but Mom isn't letting me back to my pasture at all now which is a huge bummer <SIGH>

Vacation over...

Camryn here:
Good & bad news to report.  I'll report the bad news first, my vacation is now over!!!  Yup, cause the good news is Mom is feeling better.  Not perfect but, good enough to ride me about the pasture and it's only been 5 weeks.  Her right shoulder is sored up a bit from riding, & her knows where her ribs are.  But, Mom is so pleased with herself that I can't be to mad bout the vacation ending.  Dad don't know yet, all the RFD-TV she's been watching has made her way antsy to ride.
We didn't do much, just checked my brakes which were good.  Did some flexing and softening stuff.  My turns could use a tweak, as can my backing.  I'm backing great, just in a circle!!!  Mom is guessing that's cause of her though.  Most likely cause in the Barefoot treeless I can feel her soooo much better, that a shift tells me something differant from what her intends for me to do.  Her butt cheeks are telling me to back in a circle so that's what I do.
Her felt nice and secure in the Barefoot, says it's very comfy.  Her did a tweak to the pommel cause the wide is to narrow for me.  She did a template and it looks like the Xwide might be to big.  Someone on the treeless list suggested stuffing it with a towel, so that's what she did.  Mom is gonna sell a few more exess tack on Ebay to get differant inserts for the Grandeur pad, some that keeps things off my withers more & fill in the atrophied areas better.  For now though it'll do as we're just playing out back a bit.  Tomorrow her's gonna get me a new cinch.  The saddle we'd borrowed was english rigged and my western is now a tad to big.  Her's gonna keep the old one, cause once my atrophy is gone it may fit again.  I looooove getting new stuff almost as much as Mom looooves buying it!  Kinda makes being back in the saddle worth it I'm thinking. Plus you know the saying "If Mom is Happy, Everybody is Happy!!!
